Not sure about joining. How much time do I have left to put some brushes together? Oh, and.............. DOINGA!!!! You can throw down yo! Just c-n-p like I do and the brushes accumulate quickly. LMAO...C N P my @$$! More like cut, paste, edit, tweak, relight, flip, nudge, slather with evil and a pinch of Strogg juice, and presto! Another fantastic map! If only the rest of us were so talented!

So then, for the map I've posted pics of, I'm down to adding sound and tweaking item layout.
Are we allowed to have other folks test them and give us feedback? I hate to release maps (contest or no) otherwise.
Oh and a simple question for everyone...does it add to or distract from a map when an atmospheric/ambient sound loop is added? I know it increase file size dramatically but is it worth the time and effort it takes to compose, record and optimize? An example would be marics105 "Got Fuel?"
Eh?

I love maps with atmospheric sounds. I added 10 megas of sounds to maps by overrides just to give cinematic ambience. And it works COOL. On this days a person can download many movies of Internet of 2 GB in one day. I don't see what is the problem if a map of even 25 MB like bwcity2 (which includes bmp graphics option) is realeased ... Is the Blu Ray era! Go ahead with cool sounds... a soft background music, ambiance sounds... etc. I think that a mapper is also some sort of movie director.. ! and movies spend millions of dollars only on sound (because the director seeks to convey feelings)... In a few words : We don´t use the same broadband of the first online communities of Quake 2.

Just my opinion of course... and I think that my point of view is valuable, because in my mountain town I have only 256 kbps of Internet Speed. So I dont understand the 4 MB crying babes about maps sizes.

Oh yeah, most definitely no wide release until the appointed time. I'd just like to have a couple folks give me some tweaking tips. In the past my lighting seems to be "off" due to my video card an monitor settings AND I've missed some huge, glaring faults in every map released.

I think the question asked was in relation to how LeRay runs his contests. He prohibits sharing the map with anyone but the judges and no screens are permitted until after the judging. This has resulted in mappers overlooking/missing a problem with a map that would have otherwise been corrected if a fresh set of eyes had been allowed to look it over and playing a map ensures the loadout and item placement work well with the map and gametype.

I understand. The point is that in this contest, the vote of the players will fulfill the role of a judge more. Maps will be in a server and rotating. And the players also will vote the maps but their votes will be taked like the vote of ONE judge. About to show or not screen captures... it depends of the mapper. Other mappers can speculate or not about the screen shots..
Is a mapper decision

Well, I guess, as in the Café's map contest it is allowed to share the map with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues, just as long as it does not hit the internet before the judgement is over. This has always been the possibillity at the Café and along with the use of bots, mappers should be able to find errors in their map. Anyway, I like the new judging procedure, where the players have a chance to play the maps for a little time before they will have to vote too. Thats cool, but how will the weight of the different judges and the players be scaled to the individuale map?. Will the player have to vote in a poll, just saying; I like this the most?.

Or no judges at all? Let everybody see the map progress, test it underways, and play it for 2 weeks before voting, kind of public contest? -W1

Only problem with public voting is nepotism and preventing people from voting more than once..

Another problem is that with their vote people only say something about one of the maps. They say I like this map best!. But what about all the others?

All Poll can be cheated. Maybe a poll is not a good idea. Even when I know poll systems that cannot be cheated so easily. However proboards polls not allow that cheats because only registered members can vote and you as admin know the members. Also you can know who voted. The poll should be made on Q2 Cafe Forums and not in www.q2reloaded.com.ar. The players vote is important and original. The maps are for them after all. My original idea was to allow players to vote all as one judge by giving a punctuation of 1 to 10 to each map. Only the most voted map will be the players choose. If a tie exist we will have 2 votes.
