The atmosphere and lighting look great, it has a uniform theme throughout the map...obviously can't determine the flow of the map or sounds and item placement, but the screens look amazing! Keep it up.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this and you probably already know it, so I'm really just saying it for the benefit of those who don't. The chains easily could have been cables, but since the chains are more gothic looking, you could have made two thin, long brushes with transparent sides, except for one of the long sides so you can put the chain link texture on it. Make another one, turn it 90 degrees and adjust the texture so it fills in the "linking" effect. The transparent sides will allow you to see the single textured side with the chain link and it would drop the r_speeds since you are only using 2 brushes for each chain as opposed to God knows how many for the actual links.
Just a thought...but your chains looked fantastic!!!

I will be picking up my "new to me" tower later today...I'll have to look at the contest rules, but being out of the game for over 3 years has left me pretty rusty. I might have to skip this one and look to the next one depending on the time constraints and just how deep that rust is

Already working on the brushes...tweeking the sounds, lighting and item placement will probably be where I'm weakest.

I started my map a couple of days back. A crashed UFO in the mountains. But I realize this doesn't fit in, fully, in any of the catagories. So I will put that map on the shelf and look to have something that is more accurate towards the given themes. Probably going for Otherworld theme. Something that I haven't done before, for Quake 2. Will be interesting.

Beta1 of my map is ready. EDIT: Removed beta link as suggested by margaal. Those who really want to do beta testing will find it elsewhere if they search hard enough. This way you can decide whether you want to give feedback to improve the map but ruin the surprise for yourself or not.
