a sink hole is usually because water underground has slowly flushed away sand soil dirt underneath and surprise u gotta big hole under the railroad or your house.
my dream map would be open big map like WOW or farcry2. Set in a no mans land like ww2 france. but that isnt possible in q2 i suppose. if u live in countryside u do train stations? if you live in the city u make subway stations? can u make a long highway filled with car wrecks - difficult get right feel if u respawn.

I feel funny asking, but I want to know. Is it okey to make the map for a mod instead of default Quake 2? Since I play play Action Quake 2 it feels more motivating to make maps for that mod.

You can make it that way. The Q2 version just have spawn points ammo weapons etc. =) You can make the 2 versions.

I rather not have 2 versions of the same exact map. Gameplay is so different between the two. I will see what I will do. It might work.

Then maybe the answer is: To make the maps for AQ2 and two overrides (txt files) for Quake 2 =)
In the override you can edit the spawn points, items, sounds. Etc. Anyway I think its Ok. To create an override you must use this page: r-1.ch/r1q2gen.phpIn my case I placed all the folders of bwcity in baseq2 (maps, textures, sound, env) Later I made the override in a txt file.
In that website (Path box) I typed: maps/bwcity.bsp And then I renamed the file downloaded to: bwcity.bsp.override But is Ok if you want to make just an AQ2 map.

According to the floor: For a spawn point underground you need to set altitude between 30 or 31... or -30 -31 -32 in some cases. If the floor is 60 the spawn point must be in 30 ... so so.
